VASPRA GROUP : HISTORY
Vaspra bursts on to the software scene
Eventually they realized that they couldn't achieve much in BASIC as it (according to them, in 1998) isn't a rich language. They were introduced to Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0 by Vikraman's elder brother. They immediately fell in love with it. Visual Basic opened up a whole new world of possibilities to them. They worked on VB for some time. Soon, they decided that they had to work on a project because they believed that projects are the best way to learn. They were looking for a project idea. They came across a small program that Srinivasan Vasudevan (Vikraman's brother - not yet a member) wrote. It was designed to let the user browse through images in his computer. As soon as they saw this program, they decided that they would make an image viewing application in visual basic. Thus the first project was initiated in the vaspra group. It was called "Picviewer99". In the process of writing this application, Prashanth and Vikraman learnt many important programming concepts. The idea of the "Vaspra group"was born at this time. They started talking about the group every day. As they got to know each other better, they became good friends too. The coding for Picviewer99 took two months. Debugging took another two months. Testing and feedback changes took another month. The whole project cycle took 8-9 months. It wasn't that Picviewer99 was a big application; it was just that it was a learning project. Anyhow, the project was completed in mid 1999. Vaspra group sent Picviewer99 to a popular computer magazine called "CHIP".Picviewer99 was selected for the February 2000 CHIP CD. This event brought immense joy to the group and renewed the enthusiasm of the two individuals. From this point onwards there was no looking back.
