Document Creation Aiding Techniques
The usage of computers for creating and maintaining information has become widespread and "document creation" is of prime importance today. DCAT research aims to simplify document creation by applying various innovative techniques with or without combination with existing techniques.

This paper deals with the various Document creation aiding techniques available and it suggests a few more techniques using new algorithms, Frequency reduction, Grammatical reduction to name a few. A technique to radically change the way text is input is also dealt with.
The paper starts with an introduction to Document creation and the need for aiding techniques. It also lists the available document creation aids like abbreviation expansion, Autocomplete, Spelling check and correction, grammar check etc.
The second section deals with a detailed introduction to Project predictor. Project predictor is a tool for aiding document creation. This tool aims to help the user create documents effortlessly by monitoring the text entered and predicting the most probable word that might follow the current word. If the user finds that the predicted word is useful he can instruct 'predictor' to Autocomplete the word. This helps in reducing the number of keystrokes. As an inherent feature of frequency reduction, the number of spelling mistakes is dramatically reduced.
The next section describes the various algorithmic techniques used in the functioning of Project Predictor. The techniques discussed are Alphabetical reduction, grammatical reduction and finally frequency reduction. Frequency reduction is an algorithm that predicts the next probable word that the user might type. The frequency reduction creates a table called the frequency table. The software to predict the next word can use this F-table.
The process of frequency reduction and its ancillary techniques are described in detail. This description includes a brief introduction to a distributed application for the creation of the F-Table.
The last section is a detailed note on project TenKeys which was developed to demonstrate a new text input technique that promises to aid novice typists. The user using this application need use only 8 keys instead of 26 to enter the alphabets. This means that he/she need not search for keys on the keyboard but can simply place the fingers on the mapped keys.
